How I Stay Motivated to Workout

I mentioned that a good workout is something that makes me happy, and my goal to exercise more is something that I have actually been pretty good at keeping up with so far this year! There's nothing quite like feeling sore the day after dying at the gym...

Something that helps keep me motivated is having a specific goal in mind that I'm trying to reach. This could be anything-- like losing a certain amount of weight, trying to fit in to a pair of pants, etc. I have personally set two goals in mind:

1. 5K// My mom and I are planning on running a 5K this spring, (did I mention neither one of us have ever done any kind of race before!?) To prepare for this, I've been trying to run 5 days a week, but I usually start to want to give up around mile 2 of running on the treadmill. But... knowing that I am training and need to at least make it to a little over 3 miles total (running or walking) really pushes me to go that extra mile.

2. Spring Break// I am going to the beach for spring break, so that also motivates me to push harder at the gym! My roommate and I have this joke to just yell "SPRING BREAK" whenever either of us want junk food or don't want to go to the gym! It really helps to have an accountability partner to force you to go to exercise when you're feeling lazy!

If you're looking for some motivation for your fitness routine, I would highly recommend 2 apps for your phone!

1. FitBit// This obviously only works if you own a FitBit, but the corresponding app keeps me SO accountable! Not only do I feel SO accomplished by the confetti on my profile when I reach my daily step goal, it also tracks my active minutes during the day, and graphs them by the week, so I can see exactly which days I need to step up my game (pun not intended?) This app is so cool because it tracks your sleep if you wear your FitBit to bed too, and you can also log your food/water intake! The best part about it though is being able to see all of your friends' weekly step counts. It ranks all of your friends in order of the most steps, and there's no greater feeling than being at the top of that list!(I know the Apple Watch has a lot of similar features as well.)

2. MyFitnessPal// I have been using this app since forever and it's awesome! When you sign up for an account, it asks you your current weight, your goal weight, how long you want it to take to reach that goal weight, and how active you are. Then it takes that info plus your age, gender, etc and calculates how many calories you should eat in a day to meet your goals. You can also log your exercise activity here too, but it's going to be more of an estimate as opposed to what FitBit calculates from your movements. This app is actually what I use to log my food and water during the day. It's so easy because not only can you search for food from a restaurant to log (aka "Chick-fil-a small fries"), you can actually scan the barcode from your packaged food straight into the app and it'll log all of the nutrition info for you!

Hope this gives you some motivation to strive for your fitness goals! Let's keep each other accountable! Also, if you have a FitBit add me as a friend so we can compete against each other!

What are your tips on staying motivated for working out? I'd love to know!

10 Things That Make Me Happy

Happy Wednesday! For me, once the excitement of the new year starts to wear off, it's so easy to get into a slump. The end of January is when I often find myself wishing I could just fast forward to summer aka the best time of the year. Today I am sharing a list of ten things in my everyday life that make me happy, so that I can focus on the present and enjoy today!

1. Nice Weather// We've been having such nice weather in SC, and it is so relaxing to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

2. A good cup of coffee// Every coffee addict understands that there's really nothing like the first sip of coffee first thing in morning. It's an instant mood booster for sure, and is what gets me out of bed in the mornings! It doesn't hurt having a cute mug, too hehe..

3. Good conversation// Sitting down for an hour and genuinely listening to someone is so hard to come by in the world of texting and just the busy-ness of everyday life these days, but catching up on what's going on in a friend's life (and vice-versa) is so therapeutic and definitely something I don't take for granted.

4. Discovering new music// There's nothing like being able to introduce your friends to new music they haven't found yet. I'm currently loving John Mayer's new releases.

5. A good workout// I've been sticking to my new year's resolution of going to the gym about three times a week, (which is a step up for me, big time!) and I have grown to love the feeling of ending a workout knowing that I just killed it! It also helps to have a set goal in mind! (I'm planning to do a post all about my current fitness routine and goals soon.)

6. Getting lost in a book// Something I don't allow myself to do enough. I get so caught up in the addictive world of Netflix in my free time, that I forget how good it feels to dive into a good book.

7. Changing into comfy clothes// Because what's better than changing into a huge t shirt at the end of a long day?

8. Trying new things// This is vague on purpose. It's so easy to get into a routine of the same old same old, so trying something new can be so refreshing! This could be switching up your usual coffee order, taking a different way when driving or walking, or trying out a new hobby. I've recently been trying to practice calligraphy more, (I got the pens you see above for Christmas), and even though the perfectionist in me hates it because I'm not as good as I'd like to be, spending time practicing it can be so satisfying.

9. Crossing off a "to-do" list// Because I only have classes two days a week this semester, I try to use the other days of the week to get as much done as possible. I usually make a list so I don't get sidetracked and end up watching 5 hours worth of Grey's Anatomy.. (yes it's happened...) The amount of satisfaction I get from completing a "to-do" list is a little ridiculous, and is usually rewarded by more Grey's. Oops....

10. Crawling into a warm bed// Okay this is also a little ridiculous but I got an electric blanket for Christmas (I think this is the exact one I have if you're interested) and omg... it's my life's greatest pleasure at the moment. I turn it on while I'm getting ready for bed so that my whole bed is warm when I finally crawl in. I shed a little tear every time because it's that great.

This list may seem silly, but it's nice to have a list of simple things that you can appreciate in your day to day life. I would highly encourage you to make a list of your 10 things that make you happy, and keep it in your phone to look at and encourage you when you're having a bad day!

Also, my first monthly newsletter is going out February 1st, so make sure you're signed up to receive that and the monthly wallpaper I designed (sneak peek in the pic above!) You can sign up with your email at the info bar at the very top of your screen! You don't wanna miss out!

Can you believe this week is half over??

Thanks for reading, and I'll see you Monday!

Off The Shoulder & Distressed Denim

DISTRESSED DENIM// CHOKER// SIMILAR SWEATER for $20 (similar options linked at bottom of post)//  FITBIT BRACELET// GOLD CUFF BRACELET ($12!) // SIMILAR BOOTIES// KENDRA SCOTT EARRINGS (exact color sold out)// NAIL POLISH//

This is such an easy outfit to throw together with items you already own! Even though the weather here in South Carolina has been warming up, I'm still living in jeans and sweaters, and these distressed jeggings are no exception! So comfy.

I've also talked about this FitBit bracelet a thousand times, but I wear it every time I'm in real clothes, and people always think it's one of the Tory Burch ones (but mine's less than $20!)

In other news, it was so rainy and gloomy this weekend, which made me want to do nothing but stay in bed all day in my pj's and watch Netflix... (see my fav shows here)

Also, I just added my blog to Bloglovin! If you don't know, bloglovin is a website that allows you to follow blogs you like, and it sets them up in a newsfeed for you! It looks very similar to Pinterest, but allows you to keep up with the blogs you choose! So, for example, if you like to follow food, health, and fashion blogs, you can see them all in the same same place! (There's also an app!)
Follow my page bloglovin page here

Back to another week of school!
Thanks for reading, see you Wednesday!

My Top Ten on Netflix

Discussing good Netflix shows is one of my favorite talking points, especially with people I just met or don't know very well. There is really nothing better than instantly bonding with someone over a mutual obsession with a show!
I'm always finding myself in need of good Netflix recommondations so I thought I would give some insight on my favorites.

THE CARRIE DIARIES// This show is set in the 80s and features Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw as a high schooler who lives in Connecticut, but has a SWEET internship at a fashion magazine in New York. Carrie's love interest in the show is played by Austin Butler, (aka Vanessa Hudgen's boyfriend in real life), and he is SO good looking! I made my roommate watch it and she's currently obsessed!

GOSSIP GIRL// This is obviously one of almost every girl's favorite shows but I couldn't not include it. If you haven't seen it by now, please go binge watch all six seasons right now. Are you a Blair or a Serena?

90210// This was inspired by the older show, Beverly Hills 90210. This show is SO good and has so many ups and downs throughout the series. I will admit that it starts off kind of slow, but if you stick with it through the first season, I guarantee you will love it! It is very similar to Gossip Girl, but it's set in Beverly Hills instead of New York. I actually liked it a little better than Gossip Girl... oops.

PARKS AND RECREATION// Amy Pohler plays Leslie Knope, an overly-enthusiastic government worker of her city's Parks and Recreation department. This show is set in small town Indiana, and is mostly set in the Parks and Rec office with Leslie and all of her hilarious co-workers and bff Anne. My favorite character is hands down Tom Haverford. He is so funny, and invented the "treat yo self" phrase!

FRIENDS// This is another classic that everyone loves, but I think I love it a little more than most people. I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode at least three times and can quote just about any line from the show. I even follow instagram accounts that post funny videos from Friends... But if you're not familiar with the show, it features 6 Friends in New York City that are constantly hanging out at a coffee shop, ("Central Perk"), and are always having to deal with work, their love lives, and other adult problems. Every single character is so funny in their own way, and every episode seriously never gets old!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER// "HIMYM" gets compared to Friends sometimes, but I think they're different enough that you have to watch both. This show follows Ted Mosby, who is in his late 20's/early 30's, and his life with his friends as he attempts the dating scene and tries to find the woman he wants to marry. This show is unique because it's narrated by the future adult Ted, as he tells his children how he met their mother (duh). Again, all of the characters in this show are hilarious, and I love Ted's "wingman" Barney Stinson who is played by Neil Patrick Harris.

UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT// This is a Netflix-original show and was co-created by Tina Fey. The show starts off as Kimmy and the other women she was trapped in an underground bunker with for ten years are finally rescued after being kidnapped by a crazy cult leader. The show follows Kimmy as she decides to live in New York on her own, not knowing anything about the last ten years of pop culture (which is hilarious). I was obsessed with the first season, but I could never really get into the second season. Let me know if you've watched all of it, and if it gets better!

NEW GIRL//  This show follows five friends, but mainly focuses on Jess Day, played by Zooey Deschanel. She is so quirky and funny, but is so loyal to all of her friends, and really ties them all together. The sixth season is on TV right now, so I'm patiently waiting for it to end so it will be put on Netflix! This show is a must-watch for sure! I've found myself crying laughing at this show! I love the friend dynamic between Nick and Schmidt!

LOST// This was one of the first shows I ever watched on Netflix, but it was SO good. It's not the type of show I would typically watch, but there were always so many plot twists that made it so interesting! This show is about survivors of a plane crash that are from VERY different backgrounds that are stuck on a deserted island together, and have to learn how to work together and do everything they can to survive. It can get pretty intense at some times!

JANE THE VIRGIN// This show could easily be put in any of these three categories, but I decided to put it with the dramas because I don't think people would expect it to be very dramatic. I can't ever stress enough how underrated this show is! It's about a girl named Jane (obviously) who accidentally gets artificially inseminated at a doctor's appointment. The kicker is that Jane is a virgin (who is in a serious relationship with her boyfriend Michael) and grew up with her very catholic grandmother, who always warned her about the sin of pre-marital sex. This show has multiple love triangles, murders, drug chases, etc. If you think Lost has plot twists, you haven't seen anything until you watch JTV. There are multiple plot twists that leave you with your jaw DROPPED at the end of every episode. Did I mention the narrator is hilarious!? If you watch one show on this list, you have to watch this one! It's so good and makes me so upset that not a lot of people appreciate it!

I told you I could talk about these shows ALL day! Do you have any favorites that I don't have on this list? I will mention that I finally gave in to peer pressure and am watching Grey's Anatomy right now! I'm on season 5 and it's really good, as much as I hate to admit it...

Please let me know which shows I'm missing out on in the comments below!

Classes officially started back last week aka I'm knee deep in reading and homework.. So when I do decide to change out of my daily leggings and sweatshirts (aka on the weekends) (sometimes) I like to go for something comfy and this has been my go to look recently.

I definitely wouldn't have worn this outfit a year ago, but that's one of the things I love about fashion: there are no rules. Also I have been loving this bomber jacket lately! Mine is a little older from Banana Republic, but they are EVERYWHERE right now and can literally be worn with anything! I probably wear mine too much... I made sure to link a bunch of different options down below so you can try out the trend and join my obsession. I got so many compliments on my shirt when I wore it, and it is surprisingly such good quality for the price! (Feels very similar to a piko shirt!) I'm a big fan of the SheIn website, and a lot of my friends are surprised to find out how many great items I have purchased from it!

Also loving these leather slip on shoes! I just got them from Wet Seal and have seen them still in-store, but they aren't on the website anymore. I do have my eyes on these Tory Burch beauties however...

And in case you're wondering, I'm drinking a toffee nut iced coffee. With almond milk. No classic syrup. SO good!!!!

Comment down below your current Starbucks order, I'm always on the hunt for new drinks to try!

Happy Monday and as always, thanks for reading!

How to Create the Perfect DIY Gallery Wall

headboard (less than $65!)// bedding// laptop case// graphic tee// free people socks (all time favorite socks, on sale in other colors here 3 for $30!)

Gallery walls are such a statement piece in a room, and when I started decorating my apartment, I knew I had to try one out after I had seen them ALL over Pinterest. (also, if you're not following me on Pinterest feel free to do so hehe) I decided I wanted to DIY most of my art pieces because I'm picky and didn't want to spend a TON of money on art I would probably get sick of in a year.

The process was surprisingly very easy to do! Here are some recommendations I have for you:

Be (P)inspired// I started with Pinterest to find some inspiration, for instance, the flamingo canvas (which I painted myself) was inspired by this pin and the little "sleep in" sign was inspired by this pin.

Design + Print// Once I had an idea of what I wanted, I played around on a photo editor designing my own art pieces and printing them on cardstock! I made the map print, the #blessed print, and the quote print on the bottom right corner that says "inspire to aspire before you expire" (this is one of my all time fav quotes) This can be super affordable, especially if you have old frames laying around your house!

Do the Unexpected// Do you see the spotted lampshade on my bedside table? I ordered the fabric and covered a plain black shade myself! I really wanted the same pattern on my gallery wall, but couldn't find a good print that I liked... so I actually used leftover fabric for the Dalmatian print in the frame you see on the wall! Don't be afraid to break the rules a little bit!

Use Old Items// I mentioned using old frames you have laying around your house earlier, (a little spray paint can go a long way!), but the japanese scroll on my wall is at least ten years old! I actually got it done for me at a children's museum when I was younger, and it says my name!

Add Your Own Flair// It's fine to get inspiration from other gallery walls you see, but I would encourage you to really make your gallery wall your own! The fun in these walls is that they showcase YOUR personality, so choose some meaningful pieces to you!

That's all I have! Making a gallery wall is surprisingly really easy and fun! I would recommend figuring out the exact layout you want before you start hanging everything up! Also, I used this tape to hang up everything and it is a LIFESAVER! I've used it all over my apartment and nothing has ever fallen off of the wall!

PS: I would also highly recommend my headboard! It comes in five other colors, and it's so affordable! I always get so many compliments on it!

Thanks so much for reading! If you like these type of "diy" posts, or just home decor posts in general please let me know in the comments! I would love to do more of them!
